3rd Team Fixtures & Results

Bank Holiday Monday saw Ainsdale 3rd team in action at home against Hightown in a closely fought contest that saw the visitors win in the penultimate delivery of the match. A good innings of 38 by Graham Owers supported by some solid batting meant the Ainsdale were able to declare on 171 after 40 overs. Sadly though this score proved to be just too small to defend and the Hightown side managed to score the required runs, much to the disappointment of the home side. The pick of the Ainsdale bowling attack being Andy Davis who returned figures of 3-30 for his efforts.

Not such a good story though for Ainsdale 3rd XI where a weakened Ainsdale side suffered a heavy defeat at the hand of Ormskirk. A total of 222-3 was set for Ainsdale to chase, sadly though this target was just too big. Ainsdale were bowled out for just 78 runs with Kenny Riley top scoring with 39.

Action too for Ainsdale 3rd XI in a match against Bootle 3rd XI. Ainsdale won the toss and scored well totalling 154 with Kenny Riley top scoring on 46 runs. However, despite some fine bowling, in particular, excellent figures of 3-9 from 7 overs by Alex Rigby, the Ainsdale total was achieved by their opponents and an unfortunate defeat was snatched from the jaws of what should have been victory.

Ainsdale 3rd team were also in action against New Brighton on Saturday. Ainsdale won the toss and elected to bat first scoring 145 runs before declaring after 45 overs. The Ainsdale batsmen of note were Andy Davies and Geoff Smoult who scored 28 & 29 respectively, sadly though for Ainsdale the only other score of over 20 was the one that featured in the extras column as batsmen were finding run scoring difficult. In the field the Ainsdale side did manage to take some wickets with both Andy Davies and Kyle Marshall managing to dismiss opposition batsmen, but the total that Ainsdale set was overtaken by New Brighton after only 29 overs.

Unfortunately there was also defeat for Ainsdale 3rd XI who travelled away to Maghull. Losing the toss and being forced to bat first Ainsdale could only mange to score a total of 109 all out from 42 overs. The standout batsmen for Ainsdale were Kyle Marshall who managed to score 30 before being ran out, and Dave Davies who was unbeaten on 28 at the end of the Ainsdale innings. Despite Rob Gamble and Kyle Marshall both taking a wicket each Maghull eventually had little trouble in knocking off the required runs after just 25 overs for the loss of only 2 wickets. Hopefully next week with a larger pool of players to pick from each one of the Ainsdale teams will be stronger and those teams of talented players that the club calls upon will make greater accounts.
